2014
On his campaign website, Aldama highlighted the following issues:[8]
Economy
- Excerpt: "It is time for Glendale to work toward build a more diverse economic base. We can not kid ourselves into believing that as a City, we can tax our way, or cut our way, out of the current crisis. Input and involvement by our residents, and our small business community, will be a key part of any solution(s)."
West Valley Resort and Casino
- Excerpt: "The West Valley Resort and Casino is a huge opportunity for partnership between the city of Glendale, the Tohono O’odham Nation, Glendale residents, and the Glendale business community. This project will be a significant job creator and economic boon for Glendale, while expanding tourism in the area surrounding the project, and beyond. This massive economic development project will create new construction jobs in the short-term during the building process, in addition to the long-term job opportunities once opened and operating. In addition to the added economic benefit, the positive effect on local businesses will be astronomical."
Public safety
- Excerpt: "I am keenly aware of the issues facing our public safety professionals in the Police and Fire Departments. The hiring of more public safety personnel will not necessarily make us safer. Strategic hiring and placement of personnel, and resources, will make us safer."
Public services
- Excerpt: "Public parks, our streets, and our right-of-ways are falling into disrepair because these quality of life issues have been ignored – blamed on a lack of revenue and resulting significant budget cuts over the past couple of years. Contracting out for these services is not the answer. City of Glendale employees are infinitely more invested in the good of the City. It is clear that better planning, review, and proper maintenance, will save more dollars in the long term than any short-term contract."
