Campaign themes
2016
Carter's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]
“ |
Education: Eliminate the primary homestead tax and move to an income tax on gross income. Affirm school choice as outlined in Act 46. Health Care: Publish costs online in order to allow health care consumers to “shop” for health care Discount health insurance for those that do “shop.” Energy Standards: All commercial energy projects must be voted on and the towns given standing and deference with regards to the Public Service Board, which would become an elected position versus an appointed position. Jobs: Encourage job growth through giving tax breaks to companies that locate or start-up in Vermont. Tax breaks on any new revenue for those businesses currently in Vermont that expand. Address the benefits cliff: We need to help and encourage people to get off of state assistance. People can not and will not get off of assistance if they lose money by working.[2] |
