Jamila Thomas (Democratic Party) was the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Washington. Thomas assumed office on November 16, 2020. Thomas left office on February 19, 2024.

Career

Early education and career

Thomas earned a bachelor's degree in political science from The Evergreen State College. Prior to becoming Gov. Jay Inslee's chief of staff, Thomas served as chief of staff to Superintendent of Public Instruction Chris Reykdal from 2017 to 2020. She was also former Speaker of the House Frank Chopp's (D) chief of staff for six years. She has served as a policy advisor for the House Democratic Caucus and former Gov. Gary Locke (D).[1]

Jay Inslee chief of staff

On November 5, 2020, Gov. Jay Inslee appointed Thomas chief of staff.[1] Inslee said of Thomas, "Jamila brings a deep understanding of state government. She is a strategic thinker with extensive policy experience, the ability to build coalitions and a comprehensive understanding of budget and personnel management."[1] Thomas said, "As a lifelong Washingtonian who has dedicated my career to public service, I am excited to join Governor Inslee’s team during this critical moment in our history and to continue serving the people of our state."[1]
