Jane J. Boyle is a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. She joined the court in 2004 after being nominated by President George W. Bush.

Early life and education

A native of Sharon, Pennsylvania, Boyle graduated from the University of Texas with her bachelor's degree in 1977 and from the Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1981.[1]

Boyle was nominated by President George W. Bush on November 24, 2003, to a seat on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas vacated by Jerry Buchmeyer. The American Bar Association rated Boyle Unanimously Well Qualified for the nomination. Hearings on Boyle's nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on March 10, 2004, and her nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) on April 1, 2004. Boyle was confirmed on a recorded 99-0 vote of the U.S. Senate on June 17, 2004, and she received her commission on June 29, 2004.[1][2][3]

Federal magistrate judge, Northern District of Texas

Boyle began her federal judicial career as a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. Boyle was appointed to a full eight-year term in 1990. Boyle was re-appointed to another term as a federal magistrate judge in 1998. She resigned from the court in 2002 upon her confirmation as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas.[1]
