I am a lifelong resident of Omaha, with many years of personal and professional experience in public schools [teaching high school social studies for more than 18 years and raising two daughters who graduated from Central High School. I have an in-depth perspective about what is working - and what needs to be improved - in the Omaha Public Schools system - and the full-time and know-how to make it happen.

Before I began my teaching career, I practiced bond financing law at Kutak Rock for 22 years. My training as a bond finance lawyer and partner in the law firm make me uniquely able to be a proactive member of the OPS Board, balancing a budget of more than $600,000,000, educating more than 50,000 students and supervising over 7,000 full time employees.

My commitment to public education is obvious. My legal career and bond financing expertise, together with my participation in district-wide curriculum, assessment and administrative committee work, representation of teachers as a board member for the OEA, are the essential skills necessary to best represent the Omaha community and create eager learners for tomorrow's workforce.
I firmly believe that every parent sends the best child they have to school to be successful. To be successful, our students need to be eager learners. And to be eager learners, our students need to believe in the promise that education will improve their lives. That requires that the school board establish these clear objectives:

A curriculum that includes the basics of learning and specifically addresses the differences among the learning styles, and backgrounds and abilities of the more than 50,000 students in the Omaha Public Schools District.

Schools "look" like the community our students live in - and prepares them for the community in which they will be citizens.

The faculty and administrators district-wide represent a diverse society.

The lessons and reading materials reflect the diversity of ethnic groups, belief systems, and family structure that each of our students experiences.

The objectives of education reflect the wide range of careers and interests of our student body and their families.
Eleanor Roosevelt. She brought women out of the fringes and into the mainstream of American public life. I named my daughter, Eleanor.
After graduating from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I attended law school at George Washington National Law Center in Washington DC and returned to Omaha to join the Kutak Rock national law firm. I was a public finance bond lawyer at Kutak Rock for 22 years. I earned a second Bachelor's degree in education and retired from Kutak Rock to become a dedicated teacher at Omaha North High Magnet School.
