Jane Elizabeth Magnus-Stinson is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. She joined the court in 2010 after a nomination by President Barack Obama (D). She assumed senior status on July 1, 2024.[1]

Early life and education

Magnus-Stinson graduated from Butler University in 1979 with her bachelor's degree and graduated with her law degree from the Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis in 1983.[2][1]

On January 18, 2010 Magnus-Stinson was recommended for nomination as a justice for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana to President Obama by Senators Evan Bayh and Richard Lugar. The seat that Magnus-Stinson was nominated for was vacated when Larry McKinney took senior status in 2009.[2][4]

Magnus-Stinson received a rating of Unanimously Well Qualified from the American Bar Association.[5]

Magnus-Stinson had a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on February 11, 2010.[5] The Committee voted to forward her nomination to the full Senate on March 11, 2010 and the Senate voted to confirm her on June 7, 2010 by voice vote.[6]
