Janette A. Bertness was an associate judge on the Rhode Island Workers' Compensation Court. Gov. Bruce Sundlun (D) appointed Bertness to the court in 1993. Bertness retired from the court on July 6, 2018.

Biography

Education

Bertness earned her B.A. in chemistry from Clark University in 1979, her M.S. in organic chemistry from Brown University in 1981, and her J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 1986.[1]

Career

Prior to her judicial appointment in 1993, Bertness worked as a clerk for Rhode Island Supreme Court Justice Florence K. Murray. She also worked in private practice for Roberts, Carroll, Feldstein and Pierce as a litigation associate. She worked as a lobbyist for private industry and industrial trade groups from 1988 to 1992.[1]
