Janice M. Stewart is a recalled federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of Oregon. She was first appointed to the court on October 13, 1993, and served until her retirement on March 1, 2016. She was succeeded by Judge Youlee Yim You, though she continues to serve the court on recall status.[1][2][3]

Early life and education

Stewart was born in Medford, Oregon, in 1951. She received her A.B. degree from Stanford University in 1972 and her J.D. degree from the University of Chicago in 1975.[1]

Career

Judge Stewart began her career in 1975 working for the Chicago law firm Winston & Strawn. In 1976, she joined McEwen & Gisvold, where she became a partner in 1981. She worked in this capacity until she was appointed magistrate judge in 1993.[1]
