Janis Berry
Janis M. Berry was an associate justice on the Massachusetts Appeals Court, the intermediate appellate court for the state of Massachusetts. She was appointed to this position by Governor Paul Cellucci and she took the oath of office on February 28, 2001.[1]
She retired from the bench on April 1, 2016, and rejoined the law firm Rubin & Rudman LLP.[2]
Education
Berry earned her B.A. from Boston University and her J.D. from Boston University School of Law.[1]
Career
Berry began her legal career as a law clerk for Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Edward F. Hennessey. She was in private practice for nearly 20 years with the Boston law firms of Ropes & Gray, and Rubin and Rudman LLC. Berry later spent six years as a federal prosecutor and became chief of the U.S. Justice Department's New England Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force. Berry has taught courses as an adjunct professor and instructor at four Boston-area law schools.[1]
