Biography
Carpenter earned his B.S. in speech communications from Eastern Kentucky University in 2000. His professional experience includes working as a business development officer at First Southern National Bank and operating a small rental and development company and a farm in Berea.

Elections for the Kentucky State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 20, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was January 28, 2014. Michael S. Cope ran unopposed in the Democratic primary, while incumbent Jared K. Carpenter ran unopposed in the Republican primary. Carpenter defeated Cope in the general election.[1][2][3]

Carpenter defeated Democratic candidate Lee Murphy and Evangelical Christian candidate Donald Paul VanWinkle by 23,553 votes. Murphy received 11,719 votes and VanWinkle received 1,004 votes in the November 2 general election.[4] Democratic incumbent Ed Worley did not seek re-election.
In the May 18 primary election, Carpenter defeated opponents Kent Kessler and Barry Metcalf with 4,405 votes. Kessler received 4,264 votes and Metcalf received 2,955 votes.[5]
