Recall supporters

Recall organizers submitted the following statement in support of Poley's recall:[3]

We, the undermentioned, petition for the recall of Jackson County Sheriff Jarrod Poley due to dereliction of duty and breach of public trust. Sheriff Poley has demonstrated a pattern of disregard for North Park School District student and staff safety. His consistent absence from school safety meetings since May 2023, including the April 7, 2023, tabletop exercise, and refusal to cooperate with the School District jeopardizes our children. Furthermore, his isolated approach to law enforcement, exemplified by absence of signed cooperative agreements with various agencies, hinders crucial interagency collaboration. Credible allegations of threats of obstruction of justice from U.S. Forest Service personnel and Jackson County administration, employees, and volunteers further erode public confidence. Incidents of county property misuse (July 2024, January 2025) and the legally questionable arrest of a school official on school grounds, over the student lunch and recess hour, demonstrate questionable judgment. These actions constitute behavior unbecoming a sheriff and necessitate his removal. Jackson County deserves a sheriff who prioritizes the safety and well-being of its citizens and demonstrates fiscal responsibility. Our citizens deserve better leadership [4]

Recall opponents

Poley submitted the following incumbent statement in response to the recall effort:[3]

JCSO in cooperation with the school implemented an alarm system which provides a direct alarm to dispatch deputies and the Sheriff in the event of a crisis. JCSO offered active shooter training to the school. School administration declined. JCSO offered training for child abuse cases in cooperation with a front range Lieutenant and an SRO. Also Declined. JCSO not invited to safety briefings but never refused to come when timely invited. JCSO investigated all Safe2tell reports and child abuse/sex abuse cases. The school hindered the Sheriff’s Office in all investigations. Letter had to be sent to the school attorney. The recent arrest of the school principal was pursuant to a probable cause warrant signed by a District Court judge for failure to immediately report assault as mandated by law. School has a pattern of failures to protect students’ safety and failure to report. Investigation of former Forest Service and Jackson County Admin employees was directed by CBI and Undersheriff Weber. Results were provided to the Forest Service and the Jackson County Board of County Commissioners who made independent decisions about their employees. The Sheriff has made clear that a citizen’s last name does not influence a decision to enforce the law. His concern is public safety for all citizens of Jackson County. Especially for the kids because if the Sheriff’s Office doesn’t who will? JCSO is a signatory to numerous cooperative agreements with Local, Regional, State, and Federal entities. The Sheriff serves on several boards throughout the state including LETA, North Central POST, and the Governor appointed ID Theft and Fraud. No Allegations of misuse of money or property have ever been brought to the attention of JCSO, BoCC, or any other entity The school’s involvement with this petition appears retaliatory for the arrest of the school principal.
