Jasmine Ayres was a nonpartisan candidate for representative on the Columbus City Council in Ohio. Ayres was defeated in the general election on November 7, 2017.

Biography

Ayres earned a master's degree in public affairs from the University of Texas in 2015. Her professional experience includes working as a community organizer and working with the Columbus City School Board.[1]

The city of Columbus, Ohio, held elections on November 7, 2017. A primary election occurred on May 2, 2017. Three of the seven seats on the city council were up for election. The positions of city attorney and city auditor were also on the ballot. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 1, 2017.[2] The following candidates ran in the Columbus City Council general election.[3]

  • Excerpt: "I will fight for safer communities: Using proven community-centric policing models that provide the best training for officers working in diverse urban environments; and Ensuring access to treatment and trauma recovery programs for victims of violent crime. Special attention will be given to our youth in Columbus City schools that have witnessed the deaths of their fellow students."
