A resident of VA 28 for almost 20 years, Jason Ford understands the challenges facing individuals and families in the area. Jason works as a Center Manager at Rappahannock Goodwill, helping locals find access to training, education, and employment. As a 2020 Political Science graduate from the University of Mary Washington, Jason has always had a passion for helping others and has found fulfillment in seeing others succeed and grow. Jason is the youngest person to appear on a Virginia State Senate ballot in the modern era. As a focused problem-solver, he relates to those feeling fatigue from the hyper-partisanship in today’s political environment and believes that communities are strengthened by friendships among those who disagree with each other.
  • Public education is a bedrock institution in a democracy. It’s our duty to ensure that all kids have the opportunity to obtain a vigorous education. One that will help prepare them to be functioning and involved citizens throughout their life.
  • For years now, the discussion around the importance of mental health has become commonplace in communities throughout the district. In conversations with providers and stakeholders within this field, support for the work they do is imperative to the overall wellbeing of citizens within the district, and across the state.
  • The pandemic exposed many of the inequalities that exist within communities regarding affordable housing options for individuals in every community within the district. There is a severe dichotomy between the living wage needed to support individuals and their families, and the average salary, home prices, and rent prices within those communities.
The areas of public policy that I am passionate about are supporting funding for public education, affordable access to mental healthcare, supporting the economy through affordable childcare options, and addressing the lack of affordable housing units throughout the district.
