“ | What is your political philosophy?
"Senator Lewis believes healthcare is a human right and he has led efforts to improve the quality of care and contain healthcare costs by focusing on prevention and public health. He has championed reforms to the state’s education financing system in order to ensure that all children have access to a high quality public education. And he has been a forceful advocate for increasing economic opportunity and fairness for poor and working families. Senator Lewis was born in South Africa and came to the United States with his family when he was twelve years old. His experience growing up in a segregated society — as South Africa was under the racist apartheid system at the time — grounded him with a deep sense of social and economic justice, and he has been outspoken on issues of racial, gender, and LGBTQ equality." |

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
