I live in Dexter Township with my wife Molly. We have three children, two cats, one dog and occasionally foster for a golden retriever rescue. My experience includes a variety of leadership positions in both professional and elected environments. As the Chief Executive Officer for an Area Agency on Aging I work daily on issues impacting older adults and caregivers, such as meals-on-wheels and other services that assist people to thrive in the community. As a County Commissioner I have served on the Broadband Task Force, Commission on Aging, County Roads Funding Subcommittee, SEMCOG's Executive Committee and as liaison to the Board of Public Works. In 2021 and 2022 I served in Board of Commissioners leadership quadrant, chairing Working Session. From 2008-2016 I served as a Dexter Township Trustee, working to build a voter-approved fire substation that has improved service and reduced emergency response times. For ten years I was a member of the Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority Board of Directors. I hold a B.A. in Political Science and a Masters Degree in Public Administration form the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
  • Preserve Court Services in Chelsea & Establish a Western Service Center - I have worked collaboratively with city and township leaders to preserve availability of district court services for western Washtenaw residents at the court in Chelsea. I am working to establish a Western Service Center that will house not only district court functions, but also bring county departments and resources to a location that is much more accessible for residents. This is a realization of my perspective that county government should reach out to people, rather than always making them travel to downtown Ann Arbor or Ypsilanti. Another piece of this strategy is the new Mobile Services Unit that is bringing county services and resources into the community.
  • Broadband Internet Access for Every Washtenaw Household - The internet is now critical for access to health care, educational opportunities, employment, and business development across Washtenaw County. I led the effort to bring Broadband Internet service to every household in Washtenaw County through a Gap Filling Project funded by a vote of the County Commission. Today the county's Gap Filling Project is laying fiber lines in concert with the federal RDOF-funded project and the state-funded Connecting MI Communities effort. Access to broadband internet service for all county households - the first county in Michigan to achieve this - is on track to be realized by 2026. I will continue to this important project until the work is complete.
  • Mental Health Services - In 2019 Washtenaw County Community Mental Health Authority presented a $10 million budget deficit to the county. I worked to maintain services for our residents and preserved the jobs of staff who directly work with participants daily. I will continue to put our residents needs first as we locally deliver mental health services for our community. I will also continue to pursue services targeted toward young adults in western Washtenaw County through partnerships with school districts and health care providers. Building upon the initial success of the millage funded CARES Team is critical to meeting the challenges our youth are currently facing.
Fostering collaboration between different governmental units to achieve common objectives. For example, in 2023 I joined with local leaders in Dexter to work for an allocation of more than $750,000 to establish a new home for the Dexter Senior Center on Baker Road. This effort was replicated by Congresswoman Debbie Dingell and our state legislative delegation to bring additional funds to the project. The new center is expected to open in early 2025.

Similarly in Chelsea, I worked with local leaders on a request for support of the meals-on-wheels program. I gained allocation of more than $100,000 to support work in the Chelsea community.
I've always had great respect for former U.S. Senator Carl Levin. He was deeply knowledgeable and approached his role with civility. When I think of a "statesman" he is at the top of my list.
The first core responsibility is to represent the residents of District 1, and all of Washtenaw County, with integrity and dedication. The framework of elected office is performing duties ethically and with respect to the rule of law under the state and U.S. constitutions. In addition, transparency and public engagement are also crucial aspects for anyone in elected office.

Communication and collaboration with other leaders in the community is extremely important. Approaching the work of an elected office with a perspective geared toward understanding perspectives is key to achieving progress.

I believe elected officials should conduct their work with civility. Simply providing people respect, regardless of their viewpoint, is a hallmark of democracy that has often been lost in current times.

Elected officials should also communicate and deliberate with facts and not knowingly mislead. I think understanding the history of an issue or topic is important to understanding.
I remember watching the 1976 election results on television at the age of 6 years old and being fascinated by it. I remember the hostage crisis in Iran, which began in November of 1979, and the first space shuttle launch in 1981.
My first job was delivering newspapers in my neighborhood. I did that for about 5 years.
