On February 16, 2021, New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal announced that O'Donnell and four other former officials were indicted on bribery charges after accepting illegal campaign contributions.[8] In 2018, O'Donnell allegedly accepted $10,000 in cash payments from a tax attorney, who served as the witness in the case, in exchange for work with the city.[9][10] He was originally charged with second-degree bribery on December 19, 2019, as a result of a corruption investigation spanning two New Jersey counties.[9] On June 3, Superior Court Judge Mitzy Galis-Menendez dismissed the charges against O'Donnell. Galis-Menendez said, “this court does not believe that the state has presented some evidence to the grand jury that the defendant received a benefit as a consideration for the performance of his official duties. There is no evidence of any official duties.”[11]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in New Jersey

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
