I'm a native of Central Florida, adopted after birth by Tim and Rene Brodeur. I grew up in Winter Springs, graduating from Oviedo High School. I got my undergrad from the University of Florida. After college I worked for Proctor & Gamble for several years before starting my own healthcare consulting business in Sanford, a few miles from where I grew up.

Throughout my life, I've been an active in many community organizations, including the Seminole Business Chamber, Community Based Care of Seminole County, the Seminole County Div-i-dend public school program, the Sanford Rotary, and as a American Cancer Society volunteer. I also served on the Sanford Charter Review Board and the Seminole County Planning and Zoning Commission. In 2010, I was elected to the Florida House, where I was tasked with leading several crucial committees, including the Government Operations Subcommittee and the Health and Human Services Committee. I finished my final term in 2018. My wife Christy and I live in Sanford with our dog, Oliver. I attend church at St. Andrews Chapel, work in Lake Mary, and visit my parents often in Winter Springs, where they still live in the house I grew up in.

  • Protecting Florida's vulnerable populations.
  • Improving access to quality health care through the free market.
  • Increasing access to quality education and investing in our teachers.
Healthcare - With my background in the healthcare industry, I am particularly passionate about transforming healthcare in our state. My campaign is about protecting Florida's vulnerable - those in our community who, but for the state, would have no recourse. We need to work toward free-market solutions that ensure every Floridian can access the care they need.

Economy - For the past few years, I've served as the CEO of my county's chamber of commerce. I've had the opportunity to work with countless small businesses and will be their advocate in Tallahassee as a State Senator. We need to ensure a fair legal climate, protecting "mom and pops" from baseless lawsuits. We also need to work on lowering taxes, particularly the commercial lease tax, which weighs heavily on start-ups and small businesses.

Environment - As a lifelong resident of Central Florida, I understand how important our environment is to our way of life. I'll fight to preserve our local springs and waterways, like Lake Jesup and the St. Johns, for generations to come.
My father. My dad has always put his family first, making sure we feel safe and secure no matter the circumstances. It the kind of leadership I strive for - to be a person people can trust to hold the course and do what's best for them no matter what.
The Conservative Heart: How to Build a Fairer, Happier, and More Prosperous America, by Arthur C. Brooks
Elected officials should have the integrity to know where they stand on key issues, the transparency and accessibility to communicate those positions to their constituents, and above all, the passion and skill to make those priorities a reality through the legislative process.
Given my prior service and experience in healthcare and business, I have a high level of understanding of the issues facing our state. I have a clear vision for how to achieve the policy priorities I am running on, and the ability to communicate my vision to others and form coalitions to gets things done.
Understanding the issues facing their community and advocating for solutions to those issues.
I'd like to leave office knowing that Florida's most vulnerable are better taken care of.
In high school, I worked at the Kmart in Winter Springs in the Garden Center and customer service for a year and a half.
Atlas Shrugged, because it clearly illustrates what happens when government tramples on the rights of the individual in the name of the collective good. It's a constant reminder to me of the foresight that our founding Fathers had when they drafted the Constitution and the need to stay vigilant to protect our rights.
The two chambers in Florida have very different rules for passing a bill. This makes it really difficult to pass new laws successfully out of both chambers during our short, 60-day session - and that's a good thing.
What's most important is that our legislators are in touch with their communities. The way I look at it, occupying elected office is a service to my community, not a career - that's why I support term limits on all levels of government.
Today, there is no need as great as what we see in health care. It's time we focus on reconfiguring health care in Florida to meet the needs of hard-working Americans. Prescription drug costs are too high, and insurance premiums are often unworkable. We need free market solutions and competition to bring these costs down and restore long lost accessibility to critical healthcare services.
Absolutely. I've always maintained working relationships with legislators from both sides of the aisle. Many of my most influential bills during my time as a state representative past with overwhelming bipartisan support.
Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Environment, and General Government

As a resident of Central Florida, I believe it's time or state focuses environmental funding on more than just beaches and the Everglades. Our inland springs and waterways lack vital funding for protection and rehabilitation. As a member of this committee, I'd be able to fight for that funding in my community.

Health Policy
We need real change in our state health policy and fight for laws to increase transparency in pricing and affordability for all Floridians.

Government Oversight & Accountability

Politicians need to work for us, and not the other way around. As a member of this committee, I'd fight to see that Florida's open government laws are kept sacrosanct and that we see term limits instituted at all levels of government.
I'll focus my time in Tallahassee on enhancing the prospects of my community, and not my own. With term limits in the Florid Senate, there are always opportunities to serve in leadership roles, but whatever I do will always be done with the interest of my constituents in mind.
Former Speaker and Congressman Daniel Webster, who always focuses on solving problems in his community rather than partisan bickering.
I've never seen my service as a stepping stone to a different political office. I've only ever taking opportunities to run for office when I believed I could help my community to the best of my abilities.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Florida

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states.  To contribute to the list of Florida scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.
