My name is Jason Taylor, and I'm an Air Force veteran, substitute teacher, small business owner, and soccer referee. I grew up in a working-class family and have always valued the importance of community service. My experiences as a veteran taught me the values of leadership, integrity, and dedication—qualities that I continue to carry into my work today. As a substitute teacher in several local districts, I’m deeply invested in the well-being of our public education system. Additionally, I co-own Glazed N Raised, a donut shop in Gretna, where I take pride in serving the community. In my free time, I referee soccer matches, having officiated over 500 games in under four years, which has given me unique insight into maintaining fairness, handling high-pressure situations, and leading by example. My passion for education, community involvement, and public service has led me to run for the Learning Community Coordinating Council in District #6, where I hope to advocate for equitable education for all students.
  • Every student deserves an opportunity to succeed, no matter where they come from. I’m committed to ensuring that our educational system is fair and inclusive for all students in District #6.
  • As a veteran and public servant, I bring a dedication to integrity and community engagement that is essential for effective leadership. I will work tirelessly to uplift the voices of students, parents, and educators.
  • I believe in bringing fresh ideas to the table and fostering collaboration between schools, families, and the community to ensure the best possible outcomes for our students.
I’m passionate about education policy, particularly policies that ensure equitable access to quality education for all students. Every child, regardless of background, deserves the resources and opportunities to succeed. This includes advocating for equitable funding, smaller class sizes, and strong early childhood education programs. I also prioritize community engagement, fostering an environment where families feel supported in their child’s educational journey. Finally, I’m committed to transparency and accountability within the education system to ensure everyone has a voice.
The Learning Community Coordinating Council is unique because it focuses on bridging educational disparities across districts. Its emphasis on equitable education and collaboration between various stakeholders allows it to address systemic issues that traditional school boards may not. It serves as a vital mechanism for ensuring that students in underserved areas receive the resources they need to succeed, making it a critical component of educational reform in the state.
I look up to my dad and my grandpa. They were hardworking men who dedicated their lives to providing for their families and teaching me the value of perseverance. My grandpa was a lifelong Teamster, and he taught me the true value of unions and what they can accomplish for workers. Through his example, I learned the importance of standing up for workers’ rights and the power of collective bargaining. Their example of loyalty, work ethic, and integrity has shaped who I am today. I strive to follow their lead in all that I do, especially in my commitment to service and community.
I would recommend "The Price of Inequality" by Joseph Stiglitz. It explores how economic inequality impacts opportunities in education and social mobility, which aligns with my belief in equitable access to education. This book captures the importance of creating policies that ensure all students, regardless of background, have the chance to succeed.
An elected official should prioritize integrity, transparency, and dedication to public service. These principles ensure trust between the official and the community. Compassion and a commitment to fairness are also key, as they help guide decisions that benefit all constituents, particularly in educational equity. Leadership that values collaboration and accountability is essential for achieving meaningful, lasting improvements in the community.
I believe that my dedication to service, integrity, and my ability to lead with compassion are qualities that would make me a successful officeholder. As a veteran, small business owner, and educator, I have developed the skills to listen to diverse perspectives, solve problems, and act decisively. I also understand the importance of transparency and accountability, which are key to gaining and maintaining the trust of my community. These qualities, combined with my deep passion for equitable education, will guide me in serving my constituents effectively.
The core responsibilities of a Learning Community Coordinating Council member include advocating for equitable access to quality education, ensuring efficient use of resources, and promoting policies that benefit all students across the community. It also involves fostering collaboration between schools, families, and community organizations to address educational disparities. Transparency and accountability in decision-making processes are vital to building trust within the community.
I would like to leave a legacy of service—one where people remember me as someone who worked tirelessly for the well-being of my community, especially in ensuring that every child has access to a quality education. I want to be known as someone who made a real difference by uplifting others and creating positive, lasting change.
The first historical event I remember was the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion on January 28, 1986. I was 5 years old at the time. I vividly recall my teacher rushing to turn the TV off and push the cart out into the hallway after it happened. At the time, I didn’t fully understand the implications of what had happened, but I could sense that something was terribly wrong.
My first job was when I was 14 years old, working at Wendy's. I worked there for over two years, gaining valuable experience in customer service and teamwork that stayed with me throughout my career.
My favorite book is not just one, but a series—The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. I love it because it weaves together elements of fantasy, horror, and adventure while exploring complex themes like sacrifice, redemption, and the nature of good and evil. The epic journey of Roland Deschain has stayed with me, reminding me that perseverance and determination are key in any quest.
If I could be any fictional character, I’d choose Robin Hood. He stands for justice, helping those in need, and fighting against corruption—all while maintaining a sense of adventure and loyalty to his people.
The last song that got stuck in my head was "Draw Energy" by NERO. Its powerful beat and energy resonated with me and kept replaying in my mind.
One of the hardest struggles in my life was losing my son. After his death, I fell into a dark void that consumed me for years. Although I was eventually able to climb out of that place, it’s something I continue to grapple with. At times, it still feels like I’m looking over the edge of that void, but I’ve learned to persevere and find strength through my family and service to others.
The most important responsibility is advocating for equitable access to educational resources for all students. Ensuring that funding and programs are distributed fairly to address disparities is key to creating a more inclusive and effective education system. Additionally, fostering collaboration between schools, families, and community organizations to create a holistic support system for students is vital to their success.
One lesser-known responsibility of the Learning Community Coordinating Council is its role in early childhood education initiatives. The council has the power to direct resources and establish programs for young children in poverty-stricken areas, which can significantly impact a child’s long-term educational trajectory. This is an incredibly important function that more people should recognize.
While previous experience in government or politics can be beneficial, what matters most is a deep commitment to education and community service. Experience as an educator, community leader, or advocate for public policy can provide valuable insights into the needs of students and families. Understanding the nuances of education policy and a dedication to equitable outcomes are the most important qualifications for this role.
Skills in leadership, collaboration, and public policy analysis are crucial for this office. Additionally, experience in education, whether as a teacher or administrator, can provide a valuable perspective on the challenges schools face. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are also essential for working with diverse groups and making decisions that benefit all students across the community.

Financial transparency and government accountability are non-negotiable in public service. I believe that elected officials have a duty to operate openly, ensuring that constituents understand how decisions are made and how funds are used. Accountability ensures that officials remain responsible for their actions, which is essential for maintaining public trust and fostering a fair education system.
I support reforms that make the state ballot initiative process more accessible to citizens while maintaining its integrity. It’s essential to ensure that all voices are heard, especially on issues that directly affect education and community well-being. Simplifying the process for getting initiatives on the ballot, while also increasing transparency around funding sources for initiatives, could help strengthen the democratic process.
