Campaign themes
2014
Wessel's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[2]
Honest Government
- Excerpt: "I am tired of this string of government scandals. We need to stop having every story out of Utah be another embarrassing tale of special interest, greed, legalized bribery and corruption. I will support the establishment of more ethics related laws and tighter enforcement of anti-corruption laws."
Air Quality
- Excerpt: "Our air quality along the Wasatch Front is consistently among the worst in the nation. The health impact of our seasonal bad air quality is unacceptable. I support the ongoing attempts to incentivize improvements in air quality like encouraging the import of vehicles that meet Tier III emissions standards and provide grants to convert wood burning stoves to natural gas."
LGBTQ
- Excerpt: "I support full equality under the law for everyone. I firmly believe in the promise of the Constitution of the United States, including Amendment 14 guaranteeing Equal Protection under the law to ALL residents of this country, and that it applies to marriage and parental rights. I believe that we are entering the “end game” when it comes to securing equality and protection under the law for the LGBTQ community."
Minimum Wage
- Excerpt: "We need to make our minimum wage something people can support a family with."
Education
- Excerpt: "I believe the Utah legislature needs to do more to support the teachers. We need to realize that the best education tool we have in the classroom is a well trained, motivated teacher and we need to do more to retain the good teachers."
