Jason “Jay” Dixon is a licensed, Professional Civil Engineer who earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Ohio Northern University in 1997, as well as a Master’s Degree (also in Civil Engineering) from the University of Nevada Las Vegas in 1999. Following graduate school, Jay worked at the Nevada Test Site (now the Nevada National Security Site), where he focused on hydrologic engineering and research work. Jay eventually became a principal at an engineering consulting firm in Las Vegas where he worked until 2010, when he became the Chief Hydrologist for a major mining company in Nye County, Nevada. Jay also started his own water resources consulting firm in 2010, through which he remains actively engaged in several high-profile water management projects throughout Nevada.

In 2015, Kinross - Round Mountain relocated Jay and his family to Reno. Jay’s wife Rebecca has been a public-school teacher in Clark, Nye and (currently) Washoe counties. Jay, Rebecca and their two daughters, Leah and Aubrey, are active members of the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Reno. Jay and Rebecca have been in Nevada for 25 years, having lived and worked throughout the state.

  • 1.) Natural Resources - Leveraging my industry-based expertise in natural resources, particularly water resources, to support the development of projects throughout Nevada that will help strengthen and diversify our economy.
  • 2.) Education - Improving education in Nevada is essential and it requires policy that prioritizes access and funding for more public, charter, private school, and vocational training options. We must place a higher priority on reducing class sizes and attracting and retaining quality educators. I will advocate for education improvements at all levels and workforce development that will help attract new companies to expand the economy.
  • 3.) Healthcare - Developing policy to help provide more access to affordable healthcare. I am committed to working with healthcare policy experts to help Nevada develop and secure more doctors, nurses and health specialists. A thriving economy must be supported with more affordable and quality healthcare options.
I believe that protecting our individual freedoms and constitutional rights are of paramount importance, and this belief will guide my decisions as a public servant and leader in my community. I will work diligently to protect my constituents from government overreach while advocating for low taxes and a limited but fair regulatory environment that promotes sustainable development with a priority on economic prosperity for the benefit of all Nevadans.
For the last 11 years, I was the Chief Hydrologist for Kinross Gold, providing support for their open-pit gold mines in Nye and White Pine counties. In 2010, my family and I moved to Round Mountain where we got first-hand experience in what it was like to be a hard-working family living in rural Nevada. While in Round Mountain, my wife and I were actively involved in the local community, where Rebecca was a middle school teacher for the Nye County School District and I was a Board Member for the Round Mountain Parent-Teacher Organization. I was also elected to the Round Mountain Town Board where I developed a genuine interest in public service and saw first-hand what it meant to positively influence the lives of the people in my community.

I have a passion for water resources management and development in Nevada, as demonstrated by my past roles as the President of the Nevada Water Resources Association, service on the Nye County Water District Board, and (currently) Chairman of the Water Working Group for the Nevada Mining Association. Additionally, my work as the owner of my own consultancy for the last 11 years has provided me with valuable experience in water issues throughout Nevada. I remain actively involved in a wide range of projects supporting farmers, ranchers, rural water operators, large-scale renewable and non-renewable energy producers, and essential mineral resource developers and producers.
I love all books concerning Nevada history! Over the years, my understanding of the history in many places throughout Nevada has been very beneficial for my water resources work. Some of my favorite books that discuss Nevada history include:

• Land of The Buckaroo - Historic Ranches of Western Nevada
• Cadillac Desert, The American West and Its Disappearing Water
• The Battle of Jefferson Canyon
• Uncovering Nevada’s Past

• Round Mountain: Nature’s Treasure Chest
Yes, I believe it’s imperative to build relationships with other legislators, particularly for those of us from northern and rural districts. If we can’t work with the southern Nevada legislators representing 74% of the state’s population, then we can’t be effective in our policymaking efforts to protect the interests of our own local constituents. I consider my close relationships and work history throughout Nevada to be a valuable asset in my campaign to represent the people in Assembly District 26.
Former Nevada State Senator Bill Raggio. Mr. Raggio had a profound impact on the state during his long tenure in the Legislature. He was known for his mastery of the legislative process and his commitment to working together for the greater good; he was the ultimate consensus-builder. I believe Bill Raggio was an outstanding example of a highly effective legislator, and I hope to follow in his footsteps.
Recently, while walking door to door to meet with voters in my district, a family told me about their son who was diagnosed with aplastic anemia. This disease is extraordinarily rare, afflicting about 2 out of every 1 million Americans. The mother of this child told me she learned of 14 recent cases in the Reno-Sparks area. While the thought of a potential disease cluster in this area was unsettling enough, I was also alarmed by the cost of treatment and time spent getting that treatment outside of Nevada. This is an example of the need for affordable access to quality healthcare that exists within our community, and I am committed to addressing it at the legislature.
I believe that finding common ground requires effective communication and a willingness for legislators to work together, which is something we need more of in Nevada. I am confident that my statewide experience and strong existing relationships provide a solid foundation for collaboration while maintaining my principled conservative values without the need to sign any pledges.
