I am a veterinarian who has been Mayor of the City of Reidsville while practicing veterinary medicine locally, corporately and founder (with four others) of a successful startup veterinary medical device company. Much of my success has been based on collaboration with many people from all walks of life. Currently we have a state legislature that is too adversarial. One of my attributes has been able to find common ground when working with others and to lead from the middle. While Mayor I worked with our city council to build an industrial park, negotiate a water sale agreement which has generated millions over the course of 20 years, built a regional Senior Center and set up a Human Relations Council. Rockingham County (NC District 65) has been a wonderful place to raise my family, to work and to lead when called upon. Just imagine how great it would be if our legislature would work together to create solutions that would benefit all its citizens. My experience working on Rockingham County farms treating animals, working as the Mayor of the City of Reidsville for 16 years and being in private business for over 3 decades has given me a perspective that understands many of the situations that need to be addressed in a fiscally responsible manner in Raleigh as Rockingham County's (District 65) state representative.
  • The NC legislature needs to stop the political bickering and instead work together to find solutions that will benefit all NC citizens
  • The 2% food tax should be eliminated before the C corporation tax rate is reduced again.
  • Medicaid should be expanded; and our public schools funded that meets our constitutional obligation.
1) Reduce regressive taxes such as the 2% food tax. 2) Expand Medicaid. 3) Fully fund our public schools as mandated by our NC Supreme Court so that the best education can be delivered to all of our students especially in rural counties such as ours. 4) Provide better mental health care at the county level. 5) Work with public schools and volunteer fire departments to address the shortage of EMT's/firefighters in our rural VFD's. 6) Interact with our federal department of defense agencies to explore possible opportunites for Rockingham County during the base re-alighnment process.
