Jay A. Garcia-Gregory is a federal judge on senior status for the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico. He joined the court in 2000 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton (D). He assumed senior status September 30, 2018.[1]

Garcia-Gregory was succeeded on the court by Silvia Carreno-Coll, who was nominated by President Donald Trump (R).

Education

Garcia-Gregory graduated from Assumption College with his bachelor's degree in 1966 and from the University of Madrid with his master's degree in 1969. He went on to graduate from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1972.[1][2]

Professional career

Garcia-Gregory began his legal career as a law clerk for federal judges Hiram Cancio and Jose Toledo for the District of Puerto Rico from 1973 to 1974 and also served as a private practice attorney licensed in Puerto Rico from 1974 to 2000.[1]

Judicial career

District of Puerto Rico

President Bill Clinton (D) nominated Garcia-Gregory April 5, 2000 on the recommendation of the Puerto Rican at-large Congressional delegation. Garcia-Gregory succeeded Raymond Acosta. The U.S. Senate confirmed Garcia-Gregory June 16, 2000, on majority voice vote. He received commission July 11, 2000. He assumed senior status September 30, 2018.[3]
