“My name is Jay Huncosky Jr., and I’m running for Hustisford Village President. As a dedicated EMT, I’ve spent my career serving our community in times of need, and now I want to take that same commitment to leadership in local government. I’m a proud husband to Stacey and father to our two amazing kids, Jadyn and Conner. My goal is to bring positive change, transparency, and a strong sense of community to Hustisford. I believe in listening to residents, making responsible decisions, and ensuring our village continues to be a great place to live and work.”
  • Community First Leadership – As an EMT, I’ve dedicated my life to serving others. I will bring that same dedication to village leadership, making decisions that prioritize the well-being and future of Hustisford.
  • Transparency & Accountability – Residents deserve open and honest leadership. I will work to ensure clear communication, responsible decision-making, and a government that truly listens to its people.
  • Smart Growth & Strong Foundations – Hustisford has great potential, and I will focus on sustainable growth, infrastructure improvements, and maintaining the small-town values that make our village special.
Emergency Services & Public Safety – Ensuring that first responders have the resources, training, and support they need to keep the community safe.
The office of Village President is unique and important because it serves as the closest level of government to the people, directly impacting residents’ daily lives. Unlike state or federal officials, the Village President works hands-on with local issues, ensuring essential services function efficiently and that the community’s needs are met. Key qualities that make this role vital include:

1. Direct Impact on the Community – Decisions made at the village level affect infrastructure, public safety, and local businesses more immediately than higher levels of government.
2. Accessibility & Responsiveness – Residents have direct access to leadership, making it easier to address concerns, propose solutions, and see government in action.
3. Collaboration with State & County Government – While local governance is independent, the Village President works with county and state agencies to secure funding, comply with laws, and advocate for community needs.
4. Preserving Local Identity & Values – The role ensures that Hustisford maintains its unique character, traditions, and priorities while also adapting to growth and change.

This position is the backbone of effective local governance—keeping government accountable, efficient, and community-driven.
Book: Leaders Eat Last by Simon Sinek – This book emphasizes servant leadership, putting people first, and fostering trust
Integrity & Honesty – Voters need to trust that you will act in their best interests, be transparent in decision-making, and uphold ethical standards.

Accountability – Taking responsibility for decisions, being accessible to residents, and ensuring government actions reflect community needs.
Strong Leadership & Problem-Solving – The ability to make tough decisions, navigate challenges, and guide the village toward positive growth.

Commitment to Public Service – A genuine dedication to improving the lives of residents, just as you’ve shown through your work as an EMT.
I believe several qualities I possess will make me a successful Village President:

1. Commitment to Service – As an EMT, I’ve dedicated my life to helping others in times of need. This dedication to serving the community would carry over into my role as Village President, ensuring that residents’ needs are always my top priority.
2. Problem-Solving Ability – My experience in emergency situations has honed my ability to make quick, informed decisions, which is essential for handling the everyday challenges a village faces, from infrastructure to public safety.
3. Clear Communication – Whether working with my team as an EMT or engaging with residents, I understand the importance of clear, honest communication. I will keep the community informed and engaged, ensuring transparency and building trust.
4. Collaboration & Teamwork – I am used to working in high-pressure environments where cooperation and collaboration are key. I believe in bringing people together—whether fellow board members or residents—to find solutions and move the village forward.
5. Strong Leadership with Integrity – I will lead by example, acting with honesty and transparency, holding myself accountable to the community I serve. I am passionate about upholding the values of fairness, responsibility, and ethical leadership.

These qualities, combined with my genuine desire to improve our community, will guide my work as Village President.
1. Representing the Community – Acting as the voice of Hustisford residents and ensuring their concerns and needs are reflected in village decisions.

2. Overseeing Village Operations – Working with the board, village staff, and departments to ensure efficient management of services like public works, emergency services, and infrastructure.
3. Financial Stewardship – Managing the village budget responsibly, ensuring tax dollars are spent wisely, and planning for long-term financial stability.
4. Encouraging Community Growth & Development – Supporting smart economic development while preserving the character and values of Hustisford.

5. Promoting Transparency & Public Engagement – Keeping residents informed, encouraging participation, and fostering trust in local government.
The legacy I would like to leave as Village President is one of community-first leadership—a village that is stronger, more connected, and prepared for the future. Specifically, I would hope to leave a legacy that includes:

1. A Well-Served and Engaged Community – I want to ensure that every resident feels heard, valued, and supported. By fostering open communication and transparency, I hope to create a culture of civic engagement where people are proud to be part of Hustisford.
2. Sustainable Growth & Development – A village that has grown responsibly, balancing the need for economic development with preserving the character and values that make Hustisford special. I would want to leave a community that is vibrant, resilient, and capable of thriving in the years to come.
3. Stronger Public Services – I would love to leave behind a community with excellent, well-funded public services, from public safety to roads and utilities, ensuring that these services are efficient, effective, and meet the evolving needs of our residents.
4. Transparency & Accountability – A culture of open government, where residents trust their leaders and feel that decisions are made with integrity, fairness, and the community’s best interests in mind.
5. A United Community – A legacy of unity, where residents, businesses, and local organizations work together to support and grow the community, even in the face of challenges.

Ultimately, I want my legacy to reflect a village that has become a better place for our children, like my own, to grow up in, and for future generations to call home.
Yes! The Village President has several important responsibilities that many residents may not realize, including:

1. Tie-Breaking Vote on the Village Board – While the Village President typically does not vote on board decisions, they cast the deciding vote in the event of a tie, which can significantly influence local policies.
2. Emergency Powers – In times of crisis (such as natural disasters or public safety threats), the Village President may have the authority to take swift action to protect residents, working closely with emergency services.
3. Appointments to Boards & Committees – The Village President plays a key role in shaping the village’s future by appointing members to important committees, such as zoning, public works, and finance. These appointments can have long-term effects on the community.
4. Oversight of Village Operations – While the Village Board makes policy decisions, the Village President helps oversee day-to-day operations by working with department heads, ensuring services like public safety, road maintenance, and utilities run smoothly.
5. Intergovernmental Relations – The Village President represents Hustisford in discussions with county, state, and regional officials, advocating for funding, grants, and policies that benefit the village.

Many people think of this role as primarily ceremonial, but it actually holds significant power in shaping the community’s future.
Experience in government or politics can be helpful, but it’s not the only factor that makes someone a strong Village President. What truly matters is leadership, integrity, and a deep commitment to the community.

My background as an EMT gives me valuable experience in decision-making under pressure, problem-solving, and public service—all of which are crucial in government. While prior political experience can help navigate processes and policies, fresh perspectives from outside politics can be just as valuable in bringing new ideas and a community-first approach.

Ultimately, a great Village President is someone who:
• Listens to residents and acts in their best interest.
• Works well with others to get things done.

• Leads with honesty, transparency, and accountability.
1. Leadership & Decision-Making – The ability to make informed, thoughtful decisions, often under pressure, while balancing the needs of different groups within the village.

2. Communication Skills – Strong verbal and written communication to engage with residents, local businesses, and other government officials. Being able to explain complex issues in simple terms is crucial.
3. Financial Management – A solid understanding of budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation to ensure that taxpayer money is used wisely and efficiently.
4. Collaboration & Teamwork – The ability to work well with other elected officials, department heads, and community members to find solutions and move initiatives forward.
5. Problem-Solving & Conflict Resolution – The skill to address conflicts and challenges proactively, finding common ground while keeping the village’s long-term goals in mind.
6. Public Safety & Crisis Management – A strong understanding of how to manage emergency situations and work with first responders, ensuring the community’s safety during crises.

7. Knowledge of Local Governance – While prior political experience isn’t required, familiarity with local government processes, zoning laws, and community development can be very beneficial.
The office of Village President is unique and plays a crucial role in local government for several reasons:

1. Direct Connection to the Community – The Village President is the most accessible elected official for residents. Unlike higher levels of government, they are directly involved in the daily lives of the people they represent and are expected to be approachable and responsive to community concerns.
2. Comprehensive Oversight – This role involves overseeing a wide range of village operations, from public safety and infrastructure to economic development and zoning. The Village President is in a position to influence how services are delivered and how the village evolves over time.
3. Leadership in Crisis – The Village President has the responsibility to take immediate action in times of emergency, whether it’s a natural disaster, a public safety concern, or a health crisis, ensuring the village remains safe and resilient.
4. Collaborative Decision-Making – While they lead the village, the Village President works closely with the village board, departments, and external partners to craft policies that balance growth with preserving the village’s identity and values.
5. Advocate for the Village – As the primary representative of the village, the Village President advocates for the community at the county, state, and even federal levels, seeking funding, resources, and opportunities to benefit residents.

This office has the power to shape both the present and the future of the village, ensuring that the community’s needs are met while guiding it toward long-term prosperity.
I believe financial transparency and government accountability are essential for earning and maintaining the trust of the people. As Village President, I would prioritize:

1. Open Communication – Residents deserve clear and accessible information about how tax dollars are spent, budget priorities, and major decisions.
2. Responsible Budgeting – Ensuring every dollar is used effectively, avoiding unnecessary spending, and keeping the village financially stable.
3. Public Involvement – Encouraging citizen participation in meetings, making financial reports easy to access, and fostering an open dialogue about village priorities.

4. Ethical Leadership – Holding myself and other officials to high standards, making decisions based on what’s best for the community, not personal or political interests.
