My name is Jay Kilgo. I’m a husband, father of six, small business owner, real estate broker, and Muskegon City Commissioner. I’m running for Michigan State Senate because I’ve spent my career on the front lines of the issues families talk about at their kitchen tables every day. As a real estate broker, I help first-time homebuyers, renters, and working families navigate rising costs, housing shortages, and property taxes. As a city commissioner, I work on zoning, infrastructure, economic development, and community investment. I see firsthand how housing, healthcare, transportation, education, and small business growth are all connected. When housing costs rise, families feel it. When healthcare is unaffordable, small businesses struggle. When infrastructure falls behind, economic opportunity slows down. These issues don’t exist in silos, and our solutions shouldn’t either. I’m not a career politician. I’m someone who works in the community, listens to people across the political spectrum, and believes leadership means showing up, and putting people before politics. Lansing needs leaders who understand how policy decisions impact real families in real time, & who are willing to focus on practical solutions that strengthen communities across our district.
  • Affordable Healthcare so families aren’t one emergency away from financial crisis.
  • Affordable Housing so working people can build stability and generational wealth.
  • Fully Funded Schools so every child, no matter their ZIP code, has access to opportunity.
I am passionate about: Housing Affordability & Homeownership Pathways, Economic Development & Small Business Growth, Healthcare Affordability, Education & Workforce Investment, Regional Infrastructure & Transportation, Environmental Responsibility & Future-Focused Policy, Democratic Integrity & Fair Governance. I am passionate about policies that create stability, mobility, and opportunity for working families, especially through housing, economic growth, and strong community infrastructure.
