Jay McAlpin

Jay McAlpin is a judge on the 2nd Judicial District for Lane County. He was appointed by Governor John Kitzhaber in May 2012 to succeed Mary Ann Bearden.[1] He was re-elected on November 6, 2012 to another six-year term ending in 2018.[2][3]
Education
McAlpin received his undergraduate degree from George Washington University and his J.D. from the Willamette University College of Law.[1]
Career
After receiving his law degree, McAlpin clerked for Judge Maurice Merten, who was still serving on the court at the time of McAlpin's appointment. Next, he served as Assistant District Attorney for Lane County, then went into private practice with the firm Zipse, Elkins & Mitchell.[1]

2012 election
McAlpin ran successfully for re-election against Chris Bevans, Alan Leiman, and Vincent Mulier in the November 6th election. McAlpin failed to file for election to his post and was forced to run a write-in campaign. Candidates Bevans, Leiman, and Mulier also ran as write-ins making the race an all write-in race.[2][3][4]

Delay in results
The results for the write-in race for the 2nd Judicial District, Position 7 were not released until November 20th.[5][6] The votes were hand-counted and talliers did not begin counting until the 13th.[7][8][3]
