Primary: He was defeated in the Republican primary on March 4, 2014, receiving 47.9 percent of the vote. He competed against Richard L. Jackson.

Pullin graduated from Texas A&I University, majoring in mathematics and physics. He went on to earn a master's degree in mathematics from Texas A&M.[3]
