Jay Schmitz is Judge No. 6 for the Southeast Judicial District Court of North Dakota. The seat is based out of Valley City, North Dakota, which is located in Barnes County. He was elected to the position on November 2, 2010.[1][2][3]

Schmitz won re-election to a second term in 2016.

Schmitz graduated in 1985 from Moorhead State University with a B.S. in political science. In 1989, he earned his J.D. from the Southwestern University School of Law.[3]

2010

Schmitz defeated incumbent Mikal Simonson with 51.46 percent of the vote in the general election for the Southeast Judicial District Court.[2]
