Sieling's website highlighted the following campaign themes:
“ | EDUCATION
Minnesota has long been recognized as a leader in education. It is important to maintain excellence and continue to strive to make the best better. Nearly 70% of U.S. jobs will require post secondary credentials. More jobs have specific technical requirements and need higher levels of education. Investing in quality, accessible education is the key to preparing a ready, educated workforce. Our approach to education needs to be comprehensive, starting with early childhood programs two and four year degree programs. I come from a family of teachers and have been involved in education my entire life. I've been active in higher education for nearly two decades. Minnesota's business climate thrives because of a skilled, educated workforce. We must work to maintain that excellence. HEALTHCARE Accessibility to affordable quality healthcare is an important issue in rural Minnesota. Recent reforms have helped expand opportunities for access, and costs are not rising as rapidly anymore. Minnesota currently has the lowest insurance rates in the country, and is a leader in providing quality care. It is important to make sure these "positives" extend to rural areas. We need to be able to recruit and retain top quality providers. We need to work for creative solutions to expand access to services. Electronic records and telemedicine technology are ways rural areas can stay connected and competitive with services. TECHNOLOGY We live in an increasingly global society. It is important that we, in a rural area, are able to connect to and participate in global markets in a rural area. Education and healthcare are also dependent on the accessibility and reliability of broadband networks. Online education offerings, medical records, telemedicine, product marketing all are improved with quality connections. Additionally, we need to maintain and improve our physical infrastructure. Roads and bridges, power systems all need to be kept up to date and improved with the latest technology. We need to continually look for efficiencies and ways to keep these things in good repair. ENVIRONMENT We need to be good stewards of our environment. It is the only real legacy we leave for our children. Investing in clean energy generation and delivery is a key part of this. There is no doubt that we leave footprints and an impact on our environment. We have already seen several hundred year floods, record heat and cold, stronger storms with epic rainfall. This all takes a toll on our infrastructure. Whatever we can do to mitigate these impacts we should pursue. The cost of doing nothing is too great. Clean water, clean air, healthy food, dependable energy are all key assets to a thriving society. THE SECOND AMENDMENT "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." The second amendment to the United States Constitution grants an individual's right to keep and bear arms. I support that. I am a former federally licensed firearms dealer. I bought, sold and traded firearms as part of my sporting goods business for almost five years. I own several guns. I am a hunter and a sportsman. I have a conceal / carry permit and am a member of the NRA. Despite this background and experience, I have been given an arbitrary "F" rating by the NRA and state group. Perhaps it had something to do with the political party that has endorsed me as a candidate. I don't know. But an F rating is supposed to represent an "active hostility toward second amendment issues" and that just does not apply to me. I am not seeking to regulate or restrict the second amendment. I am running to listen to and be a voice for the people of this district.[1][2] |
