Jean-Pierre "JP" Bado was raised by his mother and tía, who emigrated to the U.S. from Costa Rica. Originally from Long Island, NY, he graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and was the captain of the Army Fencing team his senior year. He later served as an officer in the First Infantry Division, then stationed out of Germany. He is an army veteran who received numerous medals for military achievement and service. He eventually left the army after successful completion of his company command, having attained the rank of Captain.

Upon his honorable discharge, JP moved to South Florida and earned an M.B.A. with specializations in finance and international business from the University of Miami School of Business. After several years working in the financial services industry, he attended night school at the Florida International University School of Law while working full time. Now a practiced litigator, JP lives in Coral Gables with his wife, Carolyn, and their rescue dog, Lorenzo. In addition to English, JP is fluent in Spanish and speaks French conversationally.

  • We must fight sea-level rise. Having once patrolled bullet-ridden streets, it hurts to now see a different kind of devastation rendering our homes uninhabitable each time our community floods.
  • As a former infantryman, I understand the intense training required to responsibly fire weapons of war and the immense respect such weapons require. That's why JP supports common-sense gun reform to protect our schools and neighborhoods.
  • We must support our veterans. To do so, I will partner with national, state and local stakeholders to ensure we never forget those who were willing to give to this great nation the last full measure of devotion.
House District 114 encompasses seven diverse communities (Coral Gables, Cutler Bay, South Miami, Palmetto Bay, Coral Terrace, Flagami &

West Miami). As an army veteran, litigator and former financial industry professional, I have the ability, commitment and experience to serve in the fight against injustice, in all its forms, for all citizens.

I intend to address the environmental, economic, health and safety issues concerning these working families and that have been ignored by leaders in the capital for far too long. Many of these problems, and their secondary effects, were all too plain during the first wave of COVID-19.

To win this fight, we must bring transparency to the state capitol and forego the politics of division that have riddled our nation these last four years in particular.
