Biography

Godden was born in Connecticut. She earned a B.A. in journalism from the University of Washington and went on to work as a journalist for the University District Herald, the Seattle Post Intelligencer and The Seattle Times.[2]

Campaign themes

2015

Godden's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[3]

Tackling the gender wage gap

  • Excerpt: "I want Seattle, not Boston, to be the premier city for women. I want us to be the Gold Standard in the Country for valuing women’s work, for being progressive and humane employers and to be a place where all men and women are able to realize their potential."

Parks and environment

  • Excerpt: "As a citizen and councilmember, I have never forgotten the importance of preserving water and air quality in our region. I’m an unapologetic, driven environmentalist who chaired the Energy and Environment committee when Seattle City Light became the first carbon neutral utility in the country. I worked through approval of the city’s Combined Sewer Overflow agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice. We need to be an inclusive city and an environmentally second-to-none city."

Transportation and neighborhoods

  • Excerpt: "Seattle’s neighborhoods are at the heart of what makes our growing city livable. For this reason, I aim to preserve neighborhood character—and the quirks we know and love—while planning for neighborhood centers as gathering spaces and transit hubs."
