Brandl ran for election to the Fourth Judicial District.
Primary: She was defeated in the primary on August 12, 2014, receiving 16.2 percent of the vote. She competed against Steven E. Antolak, Mark E. Arneson, Beverly J. Aho and Amy Dawson. [1][2]

Brandl received her B.A. in English from Mount Holyoke College in 1985 and her J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1988.[3]
