I am a scientist and concerned citizen who runs to improve state House process and make progress. I bring an analytic approach to resolve complex, intersecting societal issues: how we limit and respond to climate change; jumpstart the economy especially for youth and underemployed residents; in/ensure equitable health care provision; and recognize and remediate racially disproportionate economic, health, law enforcement, and environmental impacts.
  • I support government transparency and accountability
  • I delve into root causes, work with community members, and help craft sound, comprehensive, and long-lasting policy
  • I contribute expertise in environmental biology, toxicology, and environmental law and policy
Enacting Climate Future bills that 1) set goals for reducing carbon emissions and require consistent administrative practices ; 2) fund and deploy clean power sources to fuel transportation and buildings; and 3) provide cost-protection and job opportunity benefits to low-income and youth residents.

Commissioning study and outlining comprehensive legislation to de-fragment health care provision and financing

Considering justice and equity in all public policy decisions

I look up to many people, for different reasons. I appreciate those who work in the hardest jobs and strive for a better future. For those who care for others and may receive little notice or recognition. For teachers and mentors of the next generation, who give their heart and soul to the fostering of young hearts and minds. I look up to bold leaders who inspire with their words and deeds. I look up to specialists, and speakers of truth.
Listening and responding to constituent concerns.
Taking bold action when needed, despite campaign finance, special interest, insider influence, or electoral consequences.
A liveable planet, a more balanced and happier society
Great question! I remember having a backyard political march with my cousins on 4th of July in 1968, and shouting "Up with Humphrey!"

I remember my father on the radio speaking about opening housing to allow people of color to live in our community, in rural NY state. I thought he was inside the kitchen radio, so probably about that same time, age five.

Watergate was the first political happening I was influenced by, as my mother had the hearings on all day. I remember clearly the evening of Aug 8, 1974 when Richard Nixon resigned.
My first job was at age 15. I worked in a luncheonette as short-order cook, server, cashier, dishwasher (by hand), and custodian.
War and Peace, curiously satisfying to get through the final chapters.
A Suitable Boy, eminently engrossing and entertaining.
Affording college, paying back loans, being a parent, getting others to understand climate challenge.
Our state House and Senate work very differently. I would like to see the chambers less opposed and more functionally representative.
The state House reflects municipal and individual resident concerns, and the state Senate oversees regional integration and statewide consistency.
Yes and no. At this time, I believe politics as usual is not serving the priority concerns of people and our future. Entrenched systems of power tend to
squeeze out opportunities for newcomers, fresh perspective, and change.
Economic stability, meeting basic needs of residents, retooling and stimulating new industry, opening opportunity, mitigating and responding to climate change.
Checks and balances. At this time I see a trend toward authoritative governance, reliance on the Governor to decide how to implement open-ended legislation, not putting into place well-considered statutory goals and provisions.
Absolutely. We must work together to optimize resolution, for depth of consideration and healthy deliberation. I seek collaborative approaches in all that I do, as well as directed study to inform decision making. I work well with others for the public benefit, for honing comprehensive solutions, but not for helping pass pet funding projects.
Fair maps that reflect sensible jurisdictional boundaries. My district crosses county, state Senate district, US congressional district, and regional school district lines, and bisects or trisects town and city boundaries. In my experience this results in underrepresentation of the minor precincts of State Representative districts.

I favor following functional borders and amassing censused populations into more easily represented units. I oppose all forms of racial or politically-favored redistricting.
Recently, a voter replied on my website about her health care bills and out of pocket expenses. It's a heartbreaking story to be chronically ill, ineffectively treated, and financially strapped due to out of pocket costs not covered by insurance.
