I’m a retired teacher from Medina and a life long resident. I’ve coached numerous sports during my tenure and after I retired. I always wanted to teach and when COVID happened I realized I wanted to serve on the Board. It was a crazy time and people were divided. After that election things changed and we were able to move forward.

As a teacher I served as union president plus other positions and learned much about negotiating, compromising and doing the right thing for the students and community. I also founded the Medina City Schools Hall of Fame of which I am a member

When I ran 4 years ago I promised a second grade water safety program- we now have one.
  • Fiscal conservative. I’m not going to vote for anything that isn’t smart fiscally or doesn’t benefit students. I’m open and honest and won’t hesitate to tell the truth
  • We are not going to build more buildings, but use the ones we have efficiently. Our enrollment is decreasing so we will need to make adjustments not build new
  • I’m a Bee thru in thru. I have dedicated my life to kids and the schools. I will work hard to protect them and preserve our traditions. I try to attend as many events as possible because I believe a good school board member supports the students they serve. In the past 4 years I’ve attended more events than the other four board members put together
Public schools and vouchers. I hope that public schools are around in 4 years. This voucher scam is just that a scam. State constitutions say legislators must fund common schools not private schools. Republicans are attempting to send state money to their donors and make property owners pay more and more. Vouchers must end. If you want to send your child to a private school- you pay
The Obama’s & my parents. None of them had an easy early life, but they all worked hard to achieve great things
Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Honesty, integrity. Represent the community that elected you and do the very best for the students and staff. Don’t be afraid to speak your mind and tell the truth and vote your conscience
Believes in public education and is willing to fight for it at the state level. Stand up for the students and keep the system fiscally responsible
One of quiet helpfulness to students and those in need
Worked at the fairs during the summers for about 6 years
I love mysteries so no favorite
By law: hire superintendent and treasurer, approve policy & budgets. It is also listening to the public’s concerns and finding out the answers. Being accessible to all staff if they have concerns. The most important is supporting the students at their events
The residents and the students
Our district has embraced many diverse clubs for students. We also invite seniors in to learn about AI, computers, and numerous other skills.
Our administrative team does a great job keeping the Board involved with needs of all and we do have policies for new groups. If it is recommended the Board will support it
We have a huge senior population that can control all votes. This is the group I would target first because we need them to understand the financial needs of the district. We also need them to talk to their state legislators about property taxes and the excessive reliance the state uses them for instead of properly funding schools
I don’t think you can measure good teaching until years later. When a former student has the moment when they realize what they learned in high school has helped them to be successful- that is good teaching. Good teaching is connecting to students and allowing students to explore what interests them and allowing them to fail.
The Capstone project is expanding to all grades which the Board fully supports
Get down to Columbus and talk to legislators. Ask community to contact their local reps and advocate for schools.
Our system has done a great job of putting in man traps & cameras at front doors to protect students. I believe that schools should be the safest place for students and staff. That drives me- safety for every student
We currently have 2 Zen dens in two of our buildings to help students and staff if they want to. We do have psychologists on staff, but we need to do more which I truly don’t know what that is.
Self learning with minimal direction from teachers. Some subjects need more teacher interaction, but we are using methods to allow students to experience deeper learning. We also have Capstone projects for 3 grade levels
I attend many school events so I’m accessible to them whenever they want to talk or ask questions. I have attended several PTO meetings and will attend Booster meetings.
The Board is only involved in superintendent and treasurer recruitment. All other hires go through HR. In the past the Board has hired a group to seek prospective hires for the top two positions, but normally as soon as we announce an opening we receive numerous applicants
I would like to see PE be a class and not given a chance for an opt out.
I think we need to include it in lessons because it is the waive of the future. Students need to know when to use it properly and when it is inappropriate
Starting a 2nd grade water safety program
