Jeanne E. Scott was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois. She joined the court in 1998 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton (D). Scott became a senior judge on August 1, 2010.[1][2] She ended her service when she died October 19, 2019.[3]

Early life and education

Scott graduated from Bradley University with her bachelor's degree in 1970 and later graduated from Northwestern University School of Law with her J.D. degree in 1973.[4]

Professional career

Scott began her legal career as a state's attorney for the Sangamon County State's Attorney's Office from 1973 to 1978 before becoming a private practice attorney from 1978 to 1979. In 1979, Scott began her judicial career as an associate circuit judge in the Illinois Seventh Judicial Circuit from 1979 to 1988 before being elected a circuit court judge in Illinois Seventh Judicial Circuit Court in 1988. She was re-elected in 1992 and 1996 and served until her nomination to the federal bench in 1998.[4]

Judicial nominations and appointments

Central District of Illinois

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, Scott was nominated by President Bill Clinton (D) on April 2, 1998 to a seat vacated by Richard Mills as Mills assumed senior status. Scott was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 21, 1998, on a majority voice vote and received commission on October 22, 1998. Scott was succeeded in this position by Sue Myerscough.[5]
