A Northeast Kingdom native, Jeannine grew up in Glover and Hardwick. She resides in Craftsbury with her husband, Joe, where she has been town moderator since 2012.

Jeannine offers her management and community service experience to serve her constituents. A graduate of Woodbury College (paralegal), she was a Derby Center Trustee and Water & Sewer Commissioner for 15 years. She has worked as an administrative assistant to businesses through permitting processes. She worked and volunteered in the schools where her 3 sons attended.

Jeannine has worked for decades as a volunteer in her community. She led the efforts to organize a local service chapter of what was then L'Union St. Jean Baptiste Insurance Company and still serves as its President. Since 2008, through their volunteer work, members have co-sponsored church, civic and educational fundraising activities that have brought in over $25,000 in additional funds to area organizations, without government subsidy.

She and her husband are avid gardeners, sharing surplus produce with many in the community.

Jeannine says she will always ask herself these questions before voting: Is it good for the people? Is it good for the State? How will this affect people and what might be the unintended consequences?

  • Vermont needs strong determined leadership in 2020 to repair problems of overspending and over-regulation at the Vermont State House.
  • We need an economy that works for our farmers so they can stay in business and for businesses so they can provide jobs for Vermonters.
  • We need to protect our children in all stages of life.
I am passionate about helping people lift themselves out of poverty, providing the support and the encouragement they need. We must let them work their way up in life and have policies that keep them from "falling off the cliff" if they do work hard. We need a sliding scale for benefits so there is an incentive to work hard and not lose their help.
Legislators should make sure they have the facts, not opinions, when making decisions on legislation. There are some issues that go to the core of a person's character. One is the defense of life. The only time a politician should see which way the wind is blowing before making a decision is when hanging the laundry on the clothesline.
I am a native Vermonter, born and raised in the Northeast Kingdom. I know the rural life, growing up and working on a farm in my early years. I raised three sons and advocated for them throughout their school years-making sure they had the right classes for their abilities. I have been in leadership roles in church, school and government committees and projects. I have been involved with business mentorship, learning from successful business people, studying personal development and business principles. I have a wide range of various experiences which gives me a more rounded view of the issues facing our state.
I remember the death of President John F. Kennedy. I was 11 years old and in the 6th grade. I remember my teacher telling us about the President's assassination.
I would have to say my favorite book and why is the book I authored: Reflections: Learning Life's Lessons. It is a "big sister" book of advice in daily short messages about life.
While not necessary, it is beneficial for a Legislator to have previous experience in government or politics, it is helpful. As a former Village Trustee and Water and Sewer Commissioner, I know the challenges that our communities have. In those positions, I had to deal with Vermont's laws, rules and regulations. Having testified before House and Senate Committees, and attending Legislative sessions, I am somewhat familiar with the Legislative process. These experiences will let me get up and running right from the start.
The biggest challenges for our state in the next decade are the unfunded pension liabilities, government healthcare costs, and bureaucracy. Vermont was in the top 10 states with the highest personal income tax rates in 2019. Vermonters cannot tax its way out of these challenges. We must create efficiencies to reduce the costs of programs.
With my experiences as a school volunteer educational aide, paralegal training, and a Village Trustee and Water and Sewer Commissioner, I would be interested in being appointed to the Education, Judiciary or Government Operations Committee. From my experience in village water and sewer projects, the Natural Resources Committee would be another choice.
