Four of the seven seats on the Abilene Independent School District school board were up for general election on May 7, 2016. Place 1 incumbent Robert Laird opted not to seek re-election leaving Jeff Arrington to run unopposed and win the open seat. Place 2 incumbent Randy Piersall also ran unopposed and won re-election to his seat. In Place 3, newcomer Daryl Zeller defeated Sammy Garcia in the race for the seat of incumbent Barry Hoefer. Angie Wiley defeated James Miller in the race for the vacant Place 7 seat.[1][2]
