I am a retired US Army Chief Warrant Officer, former CID Special Agent. I worked for the Aurora Police Department from Dec 1993 - Nov 1998 as the Crime Scene Investigation Supervisor. I joined Arapahoe County Department of Human Services in 1998, moving to the Facilities and Fleet Management Department in 2004. I was the Property Manager for Arapahoe County until I ran for election as County Commissioner in District 3 in 2016. I won that election and took office in Jan 2017, winning re-election in 2020. Since being on the Board of County Commissioners, I have served on the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG); the Centennial Airport Board and many water/wastewater boards. I am married to my wife of 44 years, Yangson Baker, who I met in South Korea on my first overseas tour in the Army. We have two children, Maggie and Timothy, and one granddaughter, Helena. We have attended the same church for over thirty years and teach youth Sunday School classes. We live in Centennial.
  • Arapahoe County is a great place to live, work and raise a family. It is, however, changing. The region has been impacted by the economy, homelessness, crime and drug/alcohol abuse. Mental health services are not sufficiently meeting the needs of our communities. The County Jail SHOULD NOT be the largest homeless shelter, rehab and mental health clinic in Arapahoe County.
  • Our roads and bridges need work to be made safe for traffic, including school busses. The County's buildings are aging and need to be improved for employee safety and comfort along with safety and comfort for citizens conducting business inside them.
  • The County must plan for the future and that includes looking at the revenue and expenses. Cutting costs and saving taxpayer funds - the efficient use of tax dollars - needs to be a continuous process, not just when we have an emerging need.
Transportation, criminal justice and human services.
Colin Powell. He was the most influential leader I ever met.
My American Journey - Colin Powell. I had the opportunity to interact with General Powell on several occasions while serving in the Army. I was his bodyguard on a couple of trips he took and in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during Desert Storm.
This is a full-time job. You have to be focused on the needs of your district constituents and the County as a whole.
I have retired from the US Army and now I have worked longer for Arapahoe County than I worked in the Army. I got things done.
Dolly Madison Ice Cream at Evans and Gilpin. I'm a Denver native. Summer jobs during high school.
Any of the Jack Reacher books. Fiction that I can use to get away from the difficulties of life.
Led Zeppelin - In my time of dying.
My mind is blank, sorry.
100% complete transparency is required in our democracy.
