Hello! My name is Jeff Bennett. Before choosing to run for office, I spent my career as a Police Officer with Puyallup PD. After two decades of service, I retired and have since been working as a solar bidder, helping install solar in homes across the Puget Sound. My family is more important to me than anything. I have two lovely daughters, my wife, Shannon, and our dogs Maggie and Lola. I chose to run for City Council because I know this community well, and I know how to lead. In a time of unsteady leadership from the local to the national, from this Washington to the other one, it is crucial that we have people in office who know how to serve the public. The mantle won't be held by career politicians, it will be held by the leaders who walk the streets everyday and are in touch with their neighbors. I intend to be that candidate. I hope to earn your vote as a Puyallup resident.
Our campaign is about creating a City government that works for all its residents. That means supporting safety across every corner of Puyallup, starting with a strong and smartly-run police force. It means providing housing, jobs, and economic opportunity to everyone who seeks it. It means supporting our youth, supporting our seniors, and everyone in the middle. It means leading with a family-first mindset that is reflected at every level of governance. My policies will reflect these values- and you can learn more in depth about the policies we want to bring to the City in the campaign blog on our website.
The City Council is the government engine of every town in America, and as the refrain goes- all politics is local. You don't call your Congressman when you want your roads fixed. You don't write the President when you want your parks cleaned up or an easier commute to work. A City Council is so important in the democratic and civic process because they deal with the issues that you face every single day, and they are the most responsive forms of government we have in this country. It is vitally important to have a Council that represents your values- because that means a home that represents your values too.
I am extremely proud of my time as a police officer, particularly in the City of Puyallup- where I served for 17 years. During that tenure, I arrested the bad guys and ticketed the speedsters and helped grandmas across the street. But I also had the very fortunate opportunity to establish and occupy the role of Community Outreach Officer for the department, where I played the leading role in addressing homelessness within the city. We lead with compassion as a department and instead of sweeping up encampments and throwing away birth certificates- we helped struggling people get off the streets with the resources and support they needed. I could not be more proud of that legacy with the city.
