| “ | Health Care – The Maryland exchange continues to be a problem. People trying to sign into the exchange online have issues and when they arrive in person at the offices they must wait for hours only to be told to come back early the next day if they aren’t first in line.
Taxes – Maryland’s taxes are too high because the burden for supporting the government falls upon the individual. With an eroding private sector the only ones left to pay for the government are the individuals who reside here. Our income taxes have encouraged the wealthy to leave the state. This has shifted a higher tax burden on the middle class who have seen their purchasing power erode greatly through this recession. The Rain Tax – Fixing the Bay and our waterways requires a regional multi-pronged approach. We need to get our regional neighboring states to work with us to help rid the Bay of its pollution. The “Rain Tax” attempts to fix the problem on a “go-it-alone” basis. No matter how much money is taken solely from Maryland, it will not fix the problem that has extensive external causes emanating from upstream. We need to fix this as a group. Jobs – Maryland has lost 6,500 jobs since the O’Malley administration came in. These are companies who have either closed their doors for good or left the state for places that are less onerous to do business in. We need to reduce taxes, fees and regulations before jobs will return to Maryland. Regulations – Maryland’s immense number of regulations and high fees have encouraged companies to leave the state. We should require that laws and regulations should be sun-setted after 10 years. If still appropriate, they can be reissued. Old, overlapping regulations encourage businesses to take their jobs elsewhere. Voter ID – Do you realize that you must show a photo ID in order to sit in the balcony to watch the legislature in action or to obtain a recycling container in Anne Arundel County? But, you need not show any ID in order to vote. Does this make sense? Education – We are implementing the Common Core curriculum which changes our entire educational culture without either testing its value or gaining buy-in from the most affected groups – the teachers, the administrators and parents? We should slow this implementation down and gain the buy-in and commitment from those who have the responsibility of using it and learning in it. Gerrymandering – Do you realize that Anne Arundel County is the 5th largest county in Maryland? Yet, it has no direct representation in Congress because it has been carved into 4 different Congressional seats. None of these representatives have any direct connection to Anne Arundel County. We need an independent commission established to bring rational boundaries into our legislative and Congressional districts and stop the political maneuverings that have broken some of our neighborhoods into different districts. Let Anne Arundel County have a direct Congressional Representative and not a piece of 4 different ones.[2][3] |

Elections
2014
Elections for the Maryland House of Delegates took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 24, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 25, 2014. Kostas Alexakis, Tom Angelis and Henry Green were unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Sid Saab and incumbents Tony McConkey and Cathy Vitale defeated Jamie Falcon, Jeff Ferguson, Jeff Gauges and Nora Keenan in the Republican primary. Saab, McConkey and Vitale defeated Alexakis, Angelis and Green for three seats in the general election.[4][5][6]
