Jeff Miller (Indiana)
Jeff Miller was a Republican member of the Indianapolis City Council in Indiana, representing District 16 from 2015 to 2018. He represented District 19 on the council from 2011 to 2015.[1] Miller resigned on August 15, 2018, after pleading guilty to felony charges.[2] Click here to read more about about the charges.
Biography
Miller moved to Indianapolis in 1990. His professional experience includes working as a manager at Capgemini, an IT consulting firm. He previously worked at a firm called Aprimo. Miller's wife passed away from leukemia. He has one son.[1]
Elections
2015
The city of Indianapolis, Indiana, held elections for mayor and city council on November 3, 2015. A partisan primary election took place on May 5, 2015. The filing deadline for major party candidates who wished to run in this election was February 6, 2015. The filing deadline for independent or minor party candidates was July 15, 2015.[3] Twenty-five city council seats were up for election. Indianapolis's four at-large seats were not up for election, because those seats were scheduled to expire at the end of 2015.[4]
In the Republican primary election for District 16, Jeff Miller ran unopposed. In the Democratic primary, Emily Armonia Shrock also ran unopposed. Miller defeated Shrock in the general election. Incumbent Zach Adamson (D) ran for election to the District 17 seat.[5]

Noteworthy events
Resignation following child molestation plea deal (2018)
On August 15, 2018, Miller resigned from the city council as part of a plea deal. He pleaded guilty to four felony counts of battery on a person less than 14 years old. He was sentenced to four years probation. Judge Mark A. Smith ordered Miller not to interact with children under the age of 16 without court authorization.Cite error: Invalid <ref>

Marion County Republican Chairman Jim Merritt said he expected Miller to resign from the council, but Miller did not resign.[6] On November 21, all 10 fellow Republicans on the council issued a statement asking Miller to resign. The Republican council members voted to remove Miller from the Republican caucus on December 18, 2017.[7][8]
Miller did not resign from the council. In a December 2017 statement, Miller said he would remain on the city council to speak for constituents.[9]

Miller's request for a special prosecutor in the case was granted January 9, 2018. The special prosecutor was tasked with reviewing the evidence to determine whether to proceed with the charges, modify the charges, seek a plea deal, or drop the charges.[11]
