I'm the father of two kids currently in the Beaverton School District and a former student and graduate of the district. I've lived in this city for almost 40 years now, and I'm proud to call it my home.

I have invested a lot of time to understand the Beaverton School District: how it operates, who does what, what’s worked, what hasn’t, and so on. While we have some amazing teachers and staff in the district, the culture, safety, and performance of the district have been on the decline. I'm ready and willing to invest the time to help turn things around. I will ask the hard questions and engage others openly and respectfully. I will not just be a rubber stamp for the district.

I have been and will continue to be a vocal advocate for students, staff, and families. It would be my honor to serve you and our community in this role. I welcome your questions, concerns, and feedback. We can make a difference together!
  • Priority #1: Academics. We need to leverage proven methods and materials for our children to be and feel successful in achieving their goals. It's time to raise the bar!
  • Priority #2: Safety. Students and staff need to feel safe and able to focus to be successful. After years of struggling with a failed approach to discipline, we need to go back to basics.
  • Priority #3: School Environment. We need to take meaningful action on the top issues impacting school staff: large class sizes, ever-increasing workloads, conflicting priorities, and responsibility without authority.
To be honest, I'm passionate about pretty much everything related to public education. Obviously there's too much for any single person to know, but I've been drinking from the fire hose for the past couple of years and intend to keep going. There's no easy answer to returning our schools to greatness, and so we must spend the time to diagnose the issues before leaping forward to solutions.
The primary job of the school board is to help a school district develop its strategy and to provide governance and oversight. In other words, the school board doesn't get involved in the day to day operations of the district but instead sets the guardrails and ensures the district is moving in the right direction.
Students, staff, families, and the community as a whole. There are many voices and opinions and all are worth listening to. The challenge is to help make the right decisions and be able to explain them to everyone, even if you know they may not agree.
High-expectations and proven, effective methods for holding people accountable. I say people rather than students because we all are responsible for our parts in helping ensure schools are safe places to learn.
