A native of Florence, South Carolina, Wilder attended West Florence High School. He joined the US Army after high school and served proudly and honorably until his discharge. Jeff achieved the rank of SGT and is a decorated war veteran having served in several conflicts and Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield. Over his years of service, he has earned various awards to include: the Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal (3D Award), National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon Numeral 2, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert infantryman, Rifle, & Grenade Badges, Southwest Asia Service Medal w/3 Bronze Service Stars and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. After his military career, Jeff earned his bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University (SIU) in Workforce Education and Development. Post Army, he has worked in sales/marketing and is a South Carolina Licensed Realtor. Jeff is a Servant Leader and has been an advocate for our youth as a Boy Scout Leader, Girl Scout Troop Dad, Big Brother/Big Sister Mentor, Charleston County School District and Dorchester District II Volunteer. His commitment is not just in word, but in deed as well. He has devoted years to raising funds with his fraternity to take young men ages 8-14 to overnight summer camp. Many of the youth had never left Charleston before attending camp. Not only has he raised funds, but Jeff has donated one (1) week of his time each year to escort and chaperone the boys.
  • I have seen what a lack of opportunities for youth can do and I believe that we HAVE TO fund programs that will give young people a fighting chance. This in turn will reduce the crime rate in our community.
  • Crime is a problem in our community. Our District houses a major South Carolina corporation (BOEING) yet, many of the youth in our community don't have the skill sets or clean criminal records to obtain these jobs. I firmly believe that if people have a truly viable source of income, they will work and in turn the perceived "need" to commit crimes will be reduced as their stressors for caring for their family are moved away.
  • Traffic is a problem in our community. We have built beyond infrastructure. The road needs to be widened, alternate routes need to be devised and we need a plan on how to keep the roads in good order once they are established. Jeff believes that other forms of reliable transit are needed as well.
South Carolina needs Medicaid expansion. We have way too many who are among the working poor. They make just enough to get by but at the end of the day they can't afford to pay for separate health insurance premiums. Our state needs to take a broader reivew of who needs to be covered and make that possible. I am a Prostate Cancer survivor and I know firsthand too many men that didn't make it because they had no options at healthcare. I was fortunate to have the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center here in Charleston and a modest private policy of coverage.

The schools in District 109 need to provide better educational opportunities to our children. It starts at the core with early childhood education and continuing to make school a true learning place. I think that comes with affording opportunites outside of the classroom for true learning. I would like to see a solid plan of integrated learning of all subjects into trips and hands on projects and anything that allows our kids to see that the world is larger than what they see.

I love to see growth and development but at a pace that matches the infrastructure in place. We have grown, but not situated our community for the growth. This needs to be matched with better roads and more reliable public transportation.
LOYALTY, DUTY, RESPECT, SELFLESS SERVICE, HONOR, INTEGRITY and PERSONAL COURAGE are the cornerstones for which JEFF WILDER has built his life. These Army core values are the guiding principles that have inspired Jeff to run as a Democratic candidate for the South Carolina House of Representatives District 109 seat. Jeff believes that each of us has a duty of loyalty to seeing our country, state and community function at its best.

He has selflessly served our country and while he is very active in the community, he believes that he can do more on a larger scale. It would be his honor if you would give him the opportunity to represent District 109 at the statehouse. His personal conviction of love for family causes him to want that which he seeks for his own children for ALL children.
My first job was a summer job with the City of Florence. I was hired as a teenager as a Camp Counselor for younger children in the community at Summer Camps. This experience made it evident to me that helping others was something that I always wanted to be a part of. I enjoyed seeing the light in the eyes of the young kids as we played games with them and gave them encouragement to try new things and to push and give their best effort at physical activities and craft projects. It always made me feel good to see the kids get excited about being at camp when they entered the doors every morning.
