Winters ran in the 2012 election for South Dakota House of Representatives District 14. Winters ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on June 5 and was defeated in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[1]

Winters was a Democratic candidate for District 14 in the South Dakota House of Representatives in the November 2, 2010, state legislative elections. He was defeated by R. Shawn Tornow (R) and Marc Feinstein (D) in the November 2 general election.[2]
