A Jefferson City Indoor Smoking Ban Measure was on the November 2, 2010 ballot in the city of Jefferson which is in Cole County.

  • NO 6,439 (42.02)[1]

This measure asked voters to approve the banning of smoking in most public indoor places such as bars and restaurants. This measure was brought to the ballot by a petition drive which successfully gathered the 1200 signatures needed for approval.[2] Proponents said that banning indoor smoking wwould benefit the community and help with the health risks while opponents noted that smoking was a public right and banning it would hurt the city economy.[3] Petitioners noted that while they were not against people's rights to choose to smoke, they believe that smoking in public area was a matter for all to decide and just wanted the resident's to have a voice on the issue.[4]
