Candidate Connection

Jeffery Cady completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Cady's responses.

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1st. Legalize marijuana so we can regulate THC levels and provide safe banking for business and service providers and appropriate taxes. 2nd. Revise and restructure medicare for our elderly using funds from the marijuana law. 3rd. Allow military personal to help work on our infrastructure when currently not stationed or deployed elsewhere.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Medicare for the elderly, infrastructure and providing jobs for military personal for when they get out of the service.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

Personally I have always looked up to Stephen Hawking. He showed that even though he has had many struggles and life changes causing his disability he still fought for what he believed in. He showed that no matter what cards life gave him that he would over come the daily struggles and proved to be great at all things he aspired to accomplish.

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

na

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

To always remember who put you in the position. The people elected you to represent their voice with honesty and integrity.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

I have assertiveness to where I will stand up for what I believe in, I have commitment and will keep my word. I can build alliances that will take me further as a office holder.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

First, would be to stay in touch with the people that you are representing. Secondly, your word is your bond; don't say things that you do not mean. Third, party politics always take a back seat to your constituents.

What legacy would you like to leave?

All I would like to leave is a better world for the younger generation.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

9/11/2001

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

I was 9 years old and I feed chickens for my neighbor after school. I did this for about a year until my family moved.

What happened on your most awkward date?

Aren't all first dates awkward?!

What is your favorite holiday? Why?

My favorite holiday is Halloween. When I was a child I loved getting to dress up and get candy. Now I still dress up with my kids and take them trick'o'treating every year.

What is your favorite book? Why?

na

If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?

For my kids sake I would have to say Batman. The reasoning is because honestly its Batman who wouldn't want to be Batman.

What is your favorite thing in your home or apartment? Why?

It would have to be my stove, the kitchen is where we as a family spend most of our time while we cook supper and listen to the kids tell us about their day. Teaching the kids to cook is a very rewarding thing.

What was the last song that got stuck in your head?

Baby shark

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

Everything is a struggle in life but to pin point one thing it would have to be financially. We struggled the most when I was supporting my fiance through nursing school. Living pay check to pay check is a struggle the most people have had to deal with.

What process do you favor for redistricting?

I don't think they should redistrict, simply because parties try to district in their favor. That would result in loosing contact with the people that your representing in that district.

What qualities does the U.S. House of Representatives possess that makes it unique as an institution?

i do my research evaluating facts from all angels using common sense always taking the most beneficial path with more gain then loss

Do you believe that it's beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics?

Yes i believe that it can be beneficial, but I do not have any and I am running with the intent to win. I have followed politics for years. The amount of research I have done has impacted my campaign in a good way. I feel that after so long in office that some lose sight of the reason they ran in the first place.

What do you perceive to be the United States’ greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?

I'm not a physic but to try and predict, there could be a few. With how party politics are being done today there is a real threat of a war and that is something that we have to prevent. We have to learn to intermingle both conservative and liberal views in a healthy beneficial way for our country. I as most Americans share a belief in both conservative and liberal ideology.

If you are not a current representative, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?

ethics, armed services, transportation and infrastructure, budget, ways and means

If you are a current representative, why did you join your current committees?

N/A

Do you believe that two years is the right term length for representatives?

I have nothing against the term length.

What are your thoughts on term limits?

I feel that there should be a term limit in all aspects of government. I would say 3 terms for congress and 2 terms for senate. The reasoning is that if anyone that is currently in congress should choose to run for senate that it would fall at the right time.

If you are not currently a member of your party’s leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives, would you be interested in joining the leadership? If so, in what role?

I would be interested but as an independent there is no leadership role.

Is there a particular representative, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?

Not particularly, I personally want to break the mold and help to start a new chapter for our country.

Both sitting representatives and candidates for office hear many personal stories from the residents of their district. Is there a story that you’ve heard that you found particularly touching, memorable, or impactful?

I have met someone and their story had a huge impact on me. I will share it when the person gives me approval to use it.
