Jeffery Matis is a judge on the 6th Circuit Court in Michigan. He was appointed by Governor Rick Snyder (R) on October 20, 2015, to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Rudy Nichols. He ran for election in 2016 in order to serve out the remainder of Nichols' term, which expired on January 1, 2021.[1]

Matis received a bachelor's degree in business from Oakland University and a J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. For three years prior to his judicial appointment, he was an attorney at the law office of Garan Lucow Miller PC. He was also the vice chairman of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners and an adjunct professor at Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School.[1]

Michigan held general elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. A primary election occurred on August 2, 2016. The candidate filing deadline for incumbents was March 21, and the deadline for non-incumbents was April 19.[2] Incumbent Jeffery Matis ran unopposed in the 6th Circuit (partial term) general election.[3]
