Campaign website
Jarman’s campaign website stated the following:
“ |
Issues Student Success The mission of the State Board of Education "is to prepare Kansas students for lifelong success through rigorous, quality academic instruction, career training and character development according to each student's gifts and talents." I strongly support the mission. It should guide decision-making and lead to student success. As a board member, I will support the Kansas Department of Education and all of our local school districts as they strive to meet this mission. Local Control The Constitution of the State of Kansas authorizes the State Board of Education for the "general supervision of public schools." The board plays a key role providing general supervision on issues such as accreditation and teacher licensure, among others. It is equally important for the State Board to not stray into issues that are best handled by local school boards. For example, the State Board sets the standard for academic achievement, but local boards determine the curriculum to meet the standard.[2] |
