Legal Challenge of New York's 11th Congressional District (2026)

A case that challenged the congressional boundary lines of New York's 11th district, which was represented by the city's only Republican representative Nicole Malliotakis. The district encompassed Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn.[3] The case was filed by the election law firm, The Elias Law Group. The plaintiffs argued the district disempowered minority voters and proposed new district lines that included parts of Lower Manhattan.[4] Judge Pearlman ruled that the district was unconstitutionally configured and needed to be redrawn. Pearlman rejected the plaintiff's new district proposal and ordered New York’s bipartisan Independent Redistricting Commission to redraw the district by February 6, 2026. [5]
