School board candidates in Michigan were required to file pre-election campaign finance reports with their county election offices by October 28, 2016. Post-election reports were due by December 8, 2016.[4]

In Michigan, candidates are prohibited from receiving contributions from corporations or labor organizations. Within 10 days of becoming a candidate, candidates must form a candidate committee. Following the creation of the committee, candidates have an additional 10 days to register the committee with the school district filing official by filing a statement of organization. A candidate committee that does not expect to receive or spend more than $1,000 during the election cycle is eligible to receive a reporting waiver, which allows that committee not to file pre-election, post-election, and annual campaign statements.[5]

October 28 filing

Candidates received a total of $4,740.00 and spent a total of $2,447.57 as of October 30, 2016, according to the Macomb County Clerk/Register.[6]

Pegg provided the following response to the district's candidate survey:

What do you think is the purpose of the L’Anse Creuse Public Schools Board of Education?
The purpose of the board is to develop goals for the district and make sure that those goals are achieved. The board should also work with the Superintendent to make sure that the district is operating at its highest level.

What particular or added dimensions would you bring to the Board if voted in?
I believe that I could bring the cohesiveness the board needs to move forward. I am a people person and I take to the time to know who I am working with and who I am working for. This is important when making decisions that impact the district.

What do you feel are the three most positive aspects of L’Anse Creuse Public Schools?
The most positive aspects of the district are the students and staff. We also have diverse programs that offer something for every student at all ages including student council and green team at the elementary level, color guard and sports at the middle school level, and band, sports and CTE programs at the high school level. All of these programs are important to ensure students are well-rounded and successful in the future.

What do you feel are the three greatest challenges facing L’Anse Creuse Public Schools?
The biggest challenge is enrollment. We have to continue to develop new ideas to attract more students to the district; this includes looking at school of choice options, new pilot programs, and creating a magnet school.

What is your understanding of how our schools are financed? How could the district maintain a balanced budget?
Our schools are financed by the state through a per pupil allowance and local mileages and bonds. The district can maintain a balanced budget by making smart decisions on employee contracts and forward thinking on the needs of the district.

What is your assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the overall operations of L’Anse Creuse Public Schools?
The strength of the district is the staff members. The weakness is image of the board and the perception that we cannot get along.

If you win a seat on the Board of Education, what would you seek to accomplish?
I hope to bring some harmony and stabilization to the board. Right now we are divided; we should be working as one to make sure that the students are taken care of.

To what extent do you think Board members should be involved in legislative activities?
Any legislative issues that interfere with local control should be addressed by the board.[7][8]
