Candidate Connection

Jeffrey Whipple participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on May 9, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Jeffrey Whipple's responses follow below.[4]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Reducing federal spending.

2) Advocating for a foreign policy based in non-intervention.
3) Reforming our criminal justice system, and ending the drug war through decriminalization.[5][6]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

The areas of public policy that I'm most personally passionate about are balancing the budget, criminal justice reform. I'm passionate about fiscal responsibility because I care about the state we're leaving the country in for the next generation. We, as a nation, spend money at a level that is simply unsustainable long term. If we wait to solve this problem until the immediate future forces us to, it will be to late to reach what I would call an acceptable solution. I'm passionate about fixing our criminal justice system, particularly as it pertains to drug policy because I've known too many people whose lives have been effectively ruined by drug policy. Not by drugs themselves, but by the consequences, such as criminal record and incarceration that come from being caught with them. Addiction is tragic and damaging enough by itself. We don't need to add the complexity and difficulty of going through life as a convicted criminal to the lives of people who are already suffering from addiction. We need to help them. Making sure you can't be locked up for drug use and possession alone is the first step.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[6]

Ballotpedia biographical submission form

The candidate completed Ballotpedia's biographical information submission form:

What is your political philosophy?

I'm on the minarchist side of the libertarian spectrum. I have no desire to abolish government, or live in anarchy. I believe that government has grown too large, and too intrusive in the day-to-day lives of citizens, and needs to be reduced in size.[6]
